Same here! For everything except I’m not great at remembering names. But all the other details and circumstances—yes. Glad to know it’s not just me over here!
Oh I could’ve written this. I find myself saying “You look really familiar” when in reality I know far too much about them than is socially acceptable because I am a retainer of useless information. It has got me some funny looks in the past!
This one made me tear up a little bit? Maybe to be seen and remembered so easily is something I wish for, something we all kind of hope for. I once ran after a Instagram friend (I follow her, she does not follow me) to finally say "hi' in person and tell her I loved a fundraiser she's recently done and accidentally scared the shit out of her, so IDK maybe the pretending to forget is a good kind of self preservation.
To be seen and remembered so easily (beautifully said btw) IS something to be wished for, AND i think this pretending to forget is a form of self preservation—to not be remembered when I do may be something buried in here to <3
I remember details about people I went to HIGH SCHOOL with but NEVER INTERACTED with so hard relate. But I also can't remember what my friend Julie told me about something 6 months ago. Yolo!
Like Ren, I also feel like I could have written this! IDK why or how my brain holds on to these facts, but like if you tell me your birthday or your kids birthday one time I will 100% remember it. When I bring up some minute and random fact about an acquaintance or someone we don’t know too deeply, my husband is shocked at the level of detail I can recall from just brief interactions. But I think the way you concluded this newsletter hit the nail on the head, and I certainly think it’s a beautiful superpower to remember the details that make a person’s life.

Yes -- if I am telling you that you look familiar...I remember your life story!
Haha yep!
